Key Peninsula Preschool
Our Philosophy
We honor this philosophy in all of our early learning programs. We believe in cultivating an environment that nurtures the holistic development of each child while fostering a deep connection to community, family, and the natural world. Our philosophy is guided by the following core principles:
-
Play-Based Learning: We recognize play as the foundation of children's learning and development. Through hands-on exploration, imaginative play, and creative expression, children naturally engage in meaningful experiences that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical growth.
-
Loving our Community: We strive to create a sense of belonging and interconnectedness within our Key Peninsula community. We foster a supportive and vibrant community where every child, family, and teacher feels valued and respected.
-
Partnering with Families: We believe in the importance of building strong partnerships with families as active participants in their child's education and care. Through open communication, mutual respect, and involvement in decision-making processes, we work together with families to create a nurturing and enriching environment that promotes the unique nature of each child.
-
Fostering Curiosity and Creativity: For children, creativity is more about the process than the end result. As teachers we provide opportunities for open-ended exploration, risk-taking, artistic expression, and problem-solving to cultivate a lifelong love for learning.
-
Child-Centered Approach: We acknowledge each child as a capable, competent, and unique individual with their own strengths, interests, and spark. We support the autonomy and agency of children, allowing them to take ownership of their learning journey and develop a strong sense of self-confidence and identity.
-
Sense of Place: We believe in fostering a love of our local plants, animals, and ocean in a way that reflects the culture of our Key Peninsula community. We integrate local materials, plants, animals, traditions, community members, and landmarks into our curriculum, to help our students grow as proud Key Peninsula natives who love their homes and community.
-
Love for Nature: We recognize the importance of fostering a strong connection to our beautiful Key Peninsula environment. We love outdoor exploration, gardening, and nature walks. We hope inspire our students to learn the native plants, forest creatures and ocean to a sense of wonder for the natural world.
